Toolkit “We say, You say, They say” – a glossary for a new inclusive approach in mental health support

The toolkit is formatted as a Glossary. The way we talk about people, things and concepts/phenomena, is a carrier of ideas, emotions and beliefs. In mental health, more than other sectors in life and activity, people express through their use of specific terms and phrases, all kinds of stigmatization beliefs and stereotypes, without being conscious of them.

The way we all talk about mental health, people and their behaviours is a key factor for changing the general atmosphere towards people with mental health challenges/ or difficulties into a more inclusive one.

Some attempts have been made, internationally and European wide, as well as in a small-scale level, in order to alter somehow the language people use in mental health towards people with mental health challenges/ or difficulties, but, still, little has been achieved practically.
